Can't give borders color anymore

M

Michelle

I am using Office 2004--(Word version 11.3)

I recently noticed that I can't seem to be able to apply color to my table
borders anymore. The borders color drop-down menu can show that I've
selected a certain color, but it doesn't seem to apply it--what's shown on
the screen is still black.

I've used this feature MANY times before, so I'm sure that I'm doing it
correctly. Is this something that was somehow broken in one of the updates?

Can anyone else confirm this on your version/computer?

Clarification-
It does seem to give regular line borders the correct color. However, I
love using the striped border that looks a little like a candy cane. I used
to be able to apply color to that one also, but it no longer does.

Hi Michelle:

Well, that's fascinating! I see the same thing.

None of the "wiggly" selections seem to accept a colour.

Anything straight does. Anything that offers a selection of widths can be
given a colour.

But not the wiggly borders.

Sorry: I don't know why, or how to fix it.

Cheers

Just for confirmation, I see the same behavior. Can't really say that it is
new or different than previous, though, as I seldom use the fancy borders.
Don't remember whether coloring of them 'took' in the past, but I definitely
agree that it gives the impression that the color *should* be displaying.

In fact, after applying a color the Formatting Palette as well as the Tables
& Borders toolbar indicate that the color is applied. So does the B&S dialog
- including the presets - but the border doesn't *display* in color in the
preview or the table itself.

Something definitely *not* as it _should_ be.

I haven't updated and am still at Office 11.2.6, and I see the same
behavior. Can't apply red to the candy cane border, etc. No color in
all views, including Print to PDF.

Well, I'm glad that's it's confirmed and not just my error. I definitely
know that this is new--must have been that last update that I did. I know
that it hasn't been that way for very long, because I have a schedule that I
printed out not that long ago that has the red border. By the way, when I
print out a document that I saved at home (on a Mac) on my work computer
(XP), I'm pretty sure that it DOES print in red. I'll confirm tomorrow.

Should this "bug" be reported anywhere?

In case it matters, my last update was 11.3.2--I haven't installed the
11.3.3 update yet?

I have installed the 11.3.3 update and I have the same behaviour...

You could "Send feedback to Microsoft" from the Help menu if you wanted to
put in a bug on this.

Hi All,
If you by "wiggly" mean waved line...
I have re-installed the office with our CD version which is 11.0
(040408) and the probem is same in there. No color seen in the line,
just in the dialog the colour is indicated.

OK, so that's definitive: Yes, the dialog shows the colour but the border
does not. So it was a bug introduced in or before Office 2004 11.0.0.

Thanks Little Creature :)

Further more, when I create document on PC word 2003 and set the waved
line to red, and then open on Mac not only it is displayed as black
but th property is changed to black.
Hope this will help.

I also confirmed that opening it in Windows Office 2000 opens it with
the correct color-and prints correctly.

However, it HAS worked before in Word 2004. I've used it frequently.
I can't pinpoint exactly when this changed because sometimes I print
from home (Mac) and sometimes I print from work (PC). However, it DID
used to work. Is it possible that an update has changed something in
a prefs file (or some other file) that would be accessed regardless of
which version/update you're using?
