Can't Hyperlink to Web Pages from Word 2003

C

Chip

When I type a web page address (e.g., www.google.com or
http://www.google.com) into a word document, word does not auto-format the
entry as a hyperlink, it treats it as regular text. The same is true of an
e-mail address. I have reviewed the Word 2003 auto-correct options and they
appear to be correct (replace internet and network paths with hyperlink is
checked).

If I manually insert the hyperlink using word's insert hyperlink action, a
hyperlink is created. However, when I click (or ctrl + click), word displays
a message that says "Unable to open http://www.google.com/. No program is
registered to open this file.

Also, if I open Microsoft Word Help, and choose the "Assistance",
"Training", or "Communities" options in the Microsoft Office Online area,
nothing happens. If I choose the "Downloads" option, the following error
message appears: "Error Launching Browser".

I don't know if all of these things are related but they appear to be.

Can anyone help?

Hi Chip:

Reinstall your browser :) Your computer has no application registered to
handle HTTP protocol, so it doesn't know what to do with the destination of
a hyperlink.

After you have gotten Ctrl + Click to work, then come back here if a problem
still remains (because then we'll be able to see what it is...)

John:

Thanks for the advice. Before reinstalling my browser, however, I have one
more question. If I type a web page or an e-mail address into an MS Outlook
2003 e-mail message or when I receive an e-mail with a hyperlink in it, those
hyperlinks work as expected. Why would they work in one MS app and not in
another?
