Cant Import "-" as txt

I have an excel table with 3 fields to import. One is a Part Number that
contains all number except a "-" eg(2036347-2). In excel it formatted as
txt. When I try to import to an existing empty table with part number
formatted as txt it wont at all. If I try to import into new table it will
import all the part number that do not contain "-" and it insists on number
format for Part Number

I just noticed there were other alpha characters in field (eg NTV60014) and
none of them imported.???????????

Sorry for the question. I converted the .xls file to txt file then imported
and all is well.
