Can't Import Digital Certificate For Word

I'm trying to use an X.509 certificate with Word in Office 2003 to
digitally sign a document. Word has no import function. I tried
importing both through IE and through the MMC with the Certificate
Import Wizard. Both seem to work, but I can't get Word to see the new
certificate. What's the trick?
