Can't import/link file text file with ".log" extension

D

DOTJake

I want to link or import a tab delimited text file but
when I try I get an error "Cannot Update - Database or
object is read only". If I change the fileextension
to .txt it does work.

The file has to be named with the .log extension becuse it
is produced by another program. Short of a copy procedure,
how can I do this.

I would like to link directly to the file

Thanks,
DOTJake

Already in another group to which you posted the same question.

If you feel you need to post to more than one group (HINT: it's seldom
necessary), please have the courtesy to cross-post (send the one message to
all groups at once), rather than multi-post (send individual messages to
each group). In this way, all responses to your post will be available
together, regardless of what group the responder was in, and the rest of us
won't have to read your post multiple times. (It also uses fewer server
resources)

If you're using Microsoft's web interface to post, I believe that you can
type the names of the various groups into the Newsgroup box. Separate each
newsgroup name with a semicolon.

Note that it's generally consider to be A Bad Thing to cross-post to more
than about 2 or 3 newsgroups. (In fact, at
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2001/Mar01/Mar27pmvp.asp
Microsoft suggests that "One group will suffice")

So how about answering the question anyway? I have exactly the same problem
in A97 and haven't a clue where this guilty party was so bold as to post the
duplicate.

By the way, you could have done a search at
http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search to try and find it. You knew the
name of the original poster, you knew (roughly) the subject of the original
post, you knew (roughly) the date of the original post, and you could assume
that the newsgroup is microsoft.public.access.* (make sure you remember the
asterisk) That would have returned a limited list that you can then check
for the answer.
