can't import text time into field of type Date/Time

I cannot import a field of the form hh:mm:ss xM into a
Date/Time field. I get errors because of the AM/PM suffix.
I can't get the Import Wizard to interpret the suffix which
implies 2 things: 1) the suffix can't exist, meaning I can
only import 24 hour times into a Date/Time field, or 2) all
Date/Time imports lose the Am/PM info.

I can however, import the same field into a Text field, but
that doesn't help much.

Is there anyway to import a time with AM/PM suffix into a
Date/Time field? Or is there a way to convert it on the fly
(i.e. while being imported)?
