Can't import txt or xls to Access 2003

I'm trying to import a text file to Access 2003, and nothing happens!
When I go to file/get external data/import, I see all the file types
including text and Excel. I then choose my file and get nothing. N
data, but no error message either.

Tech support re-installed Access 2003, but the problem persists. An
suggestions on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Linking to ODBC is working fine; I can export to Excel but not t
Text.
