can't import

John Milbury-Steen

I am trying to import a table from another database. I get an error message
which says:

"The MS Jet Engine stopped the process because you and another user are
trying to change the same data at the same time."

The database into which I am importing is a copy on drive C: of a database
on a shared network drive. At the time I copied the database from the
shared drive to C: there were no other people using it. Why does Access
think there are other people using the database? If I have a copy of it on
my C: drive, isn't that an independent database with no connection to the
shared drive? Help!

Is there an ".ldb" file with the same name as the original database, in the
same folder where that database is stored? If so, it may be that someone had
been editing the table and then ACCESS didn't properly delete its ".ldb"
file (ACCESS uses this file to know which records are locked for editint).

If yes, and if no one is in the database!!!!!, delete the ".ldb" file and
then try the import again. If someone is in the database, wait until the
person is out before deleting the ".ldb" file.
