Can't input data on reinstalled Excel files

I have had to reinstall Excell and reloaded saved files
from CD. The files open - i have changed them from Read
only to normal, but the moment that I do anything the
curser changes to a 'new document' appearance or a 'No
entry' and I can do nothing further with the document.

Help please!!
