Attempts at inserting ANY photo locks and aborts Word, Excel, Powerpoint or
Outlook 2007 (as in selecting picture for ADR card posts). System is XP w/ser
pac 3. Should mention all systems initially worked, and I'm at a total loss
of what I may have done to jinx the Office applications .

PS: Inserting clipart DOES work. ??????????????

Precisely when does it lock up? After you insert the picture? When you first
click the Picture button or does it lock up when you try navigating to a
different folder? If the latter, do you have any mapped network drives that
are unavailable? If so, try removing them and see if that resolves it.

Beth, It locks just as soon as I click on Insert picture tab in Word, excell,
and Powerpoint. In Outlook it does the same when I click on the "Add contact
Picture" icon. All MS diagnostics have been run and check OK. Seems that all
other aspects of Office are working. (No problems on my desktop running
VISTA, just on my notebox running XP)

Hi Beth, thanks for trying to assist.
I can access My Pictures folders via anything except a office 2007
application. I don't know what TweakUI is.

I've now noticed that I cannot e-mail any Office document directly out.
Attempting to do so brings up a MAPI failure unspecified error, screen. This
happens whether or not I have Outlook initially opened or not? I can send
documents out via Outlook as attachments.

This is begining to bother me very much. Too the point of looking for my old
Office 2003 professional disks for a reinstall. Initially I was loving 2007
but the honeymoon is definatley now over and I'm wanting out.

I don't think the Outlook issue is related. Perhaps create a new post for
that issue so we can stay on topic with this one? :)

Does the issue occur if you start Word in Safe Mode? To start in Safe Mode,
hold Ctrl as you are starting Word and continue holding until prompted to
start in Safe Mode.

If the issue still occurs, do you have a value for "My Pictures" in the
Registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\General

If so, what is the data value for My Pictures?

Additionally, there's a fairly good chance if you install Office 2003 that
you'll encounter the same issue as you are in Office 2007. :)

Issue still occuring when opening/operating in safe mode.

Date value for My Pictures = "My Pictures"

Let's see if we can narrow this down a bit. Try the following:

- Use the Open dialog box and navigate to My Pictures
- Change the view to Thumbnails
- Change the Files of Type to All Files

Do you see the images in My Pictures or does Word lock up?

1. 2. OK. #3 misunderstood? thanks for putting up with me.

#3 pertains to the bottom of the dialog box and the "Files of Type" drop
down. Click the drop down and select "All Files'.

What I'm trying to ascertain is if the issue lies in viewing the My Pictures
folder using Thumbnails (which could be due to something like a corrupt
file) or if perhaps the issue lies in the Insert Picture dialog box. If it's
the latter then you'd need to make some changes in the Registry and I'd like
to be more certain before I make that suggestion. :)

Thanks but I'm still not following you. If I access my pictures through, stay
my pictures folder or any stand alone photo program (Adobe, Picture It, etc.)
Their viewable even printable from within respective programs. It's when I'm
using MS Office programs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook and attempt to
Insert a picture I get locked up and have to force an abort via ctrl, alt,
delete. to which comes a box of program not responding.

What I'm asking you to do is to see if you can access My Pictures and show
the Thumbnails (exactly the way you see the folder in any other program) in
the Open dialog box for Word or Excel. This is because the Office
applications use a different dialog box and I want to see if it is related
to the Insert Picture dialog box or the way the Office apps display the
folder contents.

So if you use the following steps does Word (or Excel) also hang:
- In Word (or Excel) display the Open dialog box
- At the bottom of the dialog box, change the "File of Type" to "All Files"
- Navigate to the My Pictures folder
- Change the view to Thumbnails (if necessary). Use the "Views" button on
the far right of the dialog box at the top below the Close (X) and Help (?)

coveralls

I am also having this problem, but if I go to the open dialog box, copy and
paste into document, it works. It will not work, and will crash if I try to
use the INSERT PICTURE-FROM FILE tabs
Please advise,
Thanks!

I'm having the same problem in Word 2000 on XP, possible following a Windows Update??

I click Insert>Picture>From file, and up comes the Look in dialog box which hangs if I click on anything at all. I cannot select a file, or navigate to any folders, nothing responds.

I have repaired, updated, uninstalled and reinstalled, all to no avail. This has stopped my work in its tracks and I have had to install UpenOffice until I can sort this problem out.

I do hope someone can help!

Lin
