Can't insert file into a contact using Insert as Hyperlink

I am trying to insert a file into a contact's notes area as a shortcut. When
I try to insert a file as a hyperlink (via Insert as Hyperlink), I get a
hyperlink however I can't use it. When I click on the link, an error message
appears "Cannot find file... Make sure path is correct." Any assistance would
be appreciated.
