can't insert jpegs; get a red X

Hello,

I work on a Mac G4 and have 2 GB of memory, and I am trying to insert
jpegs (exported from Illustrator) into Microsoft Word X. Even when the
files are only 500kb a big red X appears in the Word document. After
numerous tests, the only jpeg that shows up in Word is one saved after
opening the file with Preview, but the file ends up being low res even
after telling Preview to save it high res.

I created coupons in Illustrator that included a psd image, then I
exported to jpeg. I took this jpeg and tried to insert it into Word so
that other PC users can add their store information using text boxes.
We had compatibility issues with inserting eps files into Word, so I
thought that jpegs would work better since all computer users are
familiar with these types of files. Can anyone help me?

Also, I just tried inserting a png file into Word and the image printed
really great. Any thoughts on the compatibility of png files with older
computers and software?

Thank you!!
