Can't insert new autotext

When I try Insert > Autotext, "New (Alt+F3)" is grayed out. Why?

My objective is to create "Page x of y" (and other autotext
choices) for the dropdown box I get after selecting View > Header
and Footer. That dropdown box is now devoid of choices; I
frankly don't understand why it wasn't populated with a default
list when I installed Word, but that's the situation I need to
fix.

Suggestions are welcome.

Delete the ZZZ.
It keeps spam
off the server.
