If you are running Vista or 7, try the following:
1)Open Windows Update (Start, All Programs, Windows Update)
2)Choose View Update History
3)Select Failed update, right click it, and choose "Copy Details"
4)Open up Microsoft.com, then just paste the details in the search. The results will include the download page to the update, by KB#, and will allow you to install.
If you are running XP, the steps up top are mostly the same. When you have the Windows Update browser window open, just choose "Review Update History" at the right-hand part of the screen. Then all you have to do is type the KB# of the failed updates into Microsoft.com's main search bar. Then download and run, same as above.
As far as why this issue is happening, your guess is as good as mine. I've been looking into it for months, as it happens to me too. These steps are just a workaround. Let me know if they work or not.
