Hi
I recently had to do a complete system re-build after one of my HD's died
but since then I've been unable to install MSDE after successfully
installing Access 2000.
The error messages are:
"Connect failed. Could not find server".
followed by:
"Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and
cnfgsvr.out for more information".
I've looked at errorlog and cnfgsvr.out but can't see anything in either
file that explains the failure except perhaps for "SQL Server does not exist
or access denied."
I didn't experience these problems when I installed MSDE three years ago and
I'm now thoroughly baffled.
Machine spec is P3/866/384/40GB/W9SE.
I'm using Norton Personal Firewall and I noticed that there is a system wide
rule blocking inbound TCP traffic on Port 1433, the port used by MSDE, but
the same errors occurred even after I temporarily disabled the rule and
repeated the setup procedure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
