can't install Office 2000 Professional,I have Windows XP Home-why

I have XP home and I can not install Office 2000 Professional. I have been to
the updates website and obtained the latest security patches etc (including
SP2) yet when I try to install Office 2000 it gets half way through and asks
for the XP professional SP2 disk - which I do not have. Do I need to go and
buy another version of Microsoft Office (ie student edition or something??)
Thanks

First take a look in your Control Panel in Add/Remove Programs and see
if you do have an application from Office XP installed. I'm wondering
if your computer came installed with a version of Works Suite which
contains Microsoft Word 2002.

Beth, I have no such programs, no Works and no MS Word. I am thinking that
the version of office I have is not compatible with XP home. Does this sound
right?

I must say, these chats are not helping at all. I am not stupid, I know what
software my computer has and I know exactly what the error message is saying.
The program (after successfully keying the product code / ID number) gets
part way through installing and then brings up the error message and cancles
the installation. The computer I bought brand new at a store with XP home
does not have the damn disk the program is asking for. I am assuming from the
lack of responses and the increadibly unhelpful answers I have got, no-one
can help me!!!

Well, you know, we can't see what's happening there, so all we can do is ask
for information and use our instincts/experience/research/etc. to try to
offer solutions. If that's not good enough, then it's time to call Microsoft
for support.
