I'm trying to install the Office 2003 Student & Teacher
eddition on a new (1 month old) PC with XP Home. Right
after it asks for the product key, the installation shuts
down and Windows tells me that there was an error - at
least it says "sorry"
. Looking at the log files, all I
see is "NOTE 2983: An internal error ocurred"
and then an entry that says that the "Product ID" routine
failed with an error code of 1603.
I've only found the 1603 code in the KB - but it's just a
generic "Installation had an error" error. I couldn't
find Note 2983.
Anybody have any ideas - before I take the "defective"
software back for a refund?
