can't install office 2007. description of event id (5000) not foun

Hi, I'm out of my depth here, hope someone can help. I've downloaded a dll
file that was missing, still won't install. From the evnt viewer: "The
description of Event ID (5000) in Source (Microsoft Office 12) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able
to use the /AUXSOURCE+flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support
for details.
The following information is part of the event: office12setup,
{9012000-0010-0409-0000-0000000ff1ce}, 12.0.4518.1014, installfiles, 1603,
setup.xml, the windows installer cannot update one or more protected
files.,x,NIL,NIL,NIL."
Hope this is the right info, there's a lot of it.

Thanks for all of the swift and informative replies. My 12 year old has
sorted it now.
