i cannot update Office SP w/SP-2. Searching MSoft, i
found that Windows SP wipes out .msp files (See: article
# 814833, PRB: Windows System Restore Does Not Monitor
Windows Installer Patch (.msp) Files)
"This problem occurs because Windows XP System Restore
does not monitor the Windows Installer Patch (.msp)
files. When you install the patch files, the cached patch
is not restored in the Windows Folder\Installer folder.
Also, Service Pack 2 (SP2) is cumulative. It contains the
previous Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) files. After you
install SP2, the individual QFEs that you installed
become obsolete. Windows Installer removes the
configuration data for the QFE patches including the
registry keys."
i've done system restores to a date and to 'before
Windows Update SP-a." WU SP-1 installed ok, but SP-2 will
not, and Outlook is not allowing either update installs
or uninstalling of the program. Says it cannot find the
security patch. Outlook is running ok.
Also, the update center cannot communicate with my
computer to look for needed updates. Again, it says it
cannot find the patch.
