Can't install or uninstall Outlook!

F

Fred Gibson

When I try to change the Office SR-1 small business
program to uninstall Outlook, I get the following message:

"This patch package could not be opened. Contact the
application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer patch package."
(See article 295823)

The interesting problem here is that if you have windows
installer 2.0 or greater (which I do have), there is
nothing you can do according to this article.

What can I do?? I can't uninstall and I can't reinstall -
ACK!

Thanks,

Fred Gibson

Fred,

You might consider using Msizap. For additional details and download
location:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/msi/setup/msizap_exe.asp

The command line you run will look like:

<path>\msizap.exe T! {GUID}

(where GUID is the Product Code for the product in question. The GUID can be
found under the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall)

Please make sure to read all documentation on Msizap before using it.

Hope this helps.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the reply. What I don't understand is how to
get the GUID.

You mention:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Uninstall

What is that a reference to? A file, a directory, some
program that I need to use to get to it?

Thanks!
