can't install sp 3

Have XP Home. I have Office 2000 and use automatic updates. Was directed to
install SP 3 recently. Won.t install. Not everytime I boot up it wants me
to install. I'm tired of trying to figure out this mess. Is there anyway I
can delete SP 3 from my machine and the task bar? Thanks
