Hello,
A client has a fresh and fully updated installation of XP Pro (except for
Windows Defender, Lavasoft, OpenOffice, and some other stuff -- I
uninstalled everything except for WinDef) on a used machine purchased from a
local dealer.
When I first fired up the machine, Windows Update didn't work, but I fixed
that by uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Installer 3.1.
I installed Office 2000 Premium SP1 and went to Office Update using IE7.
The site reported that the Office Genuine Advantage ActiveX control could
not be installed. Other controls, however, can be installed. For instance,
I downloaded some Office clipart from the site.
I tried disabling WinDef, added http://office.microsoft.com to the Trusted
Sites list, made sure zone settings and IE7, cleaned out Temporary Internet
Files, checked the Local Security Policy, and the event logs. No errors
appear anywhere -- only the message from the web site saying that the
control couldn't be installed.
Any ideas? I'll be grateful for any help.
