Can't launch Outlook 2003

Outlook has been working fine until yesterday. It suddenly wouldn't open. I
tried the fix of putting outlook.exe /resetnavpane but it didn't work. When
I try to open it in safe mode I get this message: the extension configuration
file "C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftOffice\Office11\ADDINS\msspc-ecf" could not be
installed. There is an error in the syntax or format of the file.
What should be the correct syntax or format? Any other suggestions? I'm
running Outlook 2003 with Windows XP.

I would try renaming the file named msspc.ecf at the drive\path identified.
Once you rename the file to msspc.ecf.original, go to add/remove program and
then do a repair installation of Office 2003. That should bring in a new
copy of the ecf file and allow Outlook to start.

Did you uninstall anything before this error started to appear? Does that
file actually exist? What happens of you delete the (usually hidden) file
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat ?

I didn't uninstall anything. It worked in the morning and when I went back
in the afternoon it didn't. I did a search for the file and it is there. I
found a place that downloads a fix for that file ext and drivers. It's
DriverCure. Ever heard of it? I'm afraid to just download anything from the
internet without feeling it's secure.

I've never heard of DriverCure. Did you try Neo's suggestion?

Okay, I give up. I have been considering upgrading to outlook 2007 so I
guess this is the time. If I uninstall Outlook 2003 then install the new one
will I have any issues with any duplicate files sitting out there somewhere?
