can't launch word

Hi, I tried to open an attachment this morning and had a problem. When
I try to open a Word file I get the following:
Application Launch Failure. The application "Word" could not be
launched because of a shared library error. "*microsoft
word><carbonLib><CFMPriv_ATS><>"

Anyone ever see this? I called Micrsoft and they had me run disk
utility. When I ran verify disk, there were errors. When I ran disk
repair it said there were no errors. Finally Microsoft said the
problem was with the hard drive and to get in touch with Apple. Thanks

Hi Ken -

It looks like a disk error, but before anything else;

Is OS X fully updated (10.4.8 if Tiger, 10.3.9 if Panther)?
Is Office up-to-date (11.3.3 if Office 2004, 10.1.9 if Office X)?
Which version of each are you using?
What type of Mac do you have?
Are there problems running any other programs?

What exactly did Microsoft have you do - Disk Utility offers a Repair Disk
Permissions as well as a Repair Disk routine. Which did you run?

Please provide details on what you've tried & the specific results so as to
avoid unnecessary duplication of effort.
