Can't link Excel ranges to Powerpoint

I have a set of charts linked to Excel. Some are specific charts from Excel
and they link with no problems. I have some charts that point to a specific
Excel range. These are not linking. Powerpoint is not seeing the file. I
have the Excel file open to help expedite the linking process. Does anyone
have a suggestion?

Thanks and sorry. Office 2007. Area in Excel was highlighted and a Paste
Link was done in Powerpoint. I open the Excel file, open the Powerpoint file
and enable the links. Where Powerpoint is linking to Excel charts, they work
just fine. It's only for those links where a range is specified. Does that
help?

The links work fine for others in the office, I'm the only one where it's
not working. I also have a new computer, so I suspect the install might be
corrupted.

I'm curious. Why do you think that hotfix might resolve the problem?

Here's why I'm curious. I tried to open the Powerpoint file and clicked
cancel when prompted for updating the links. However, it seemed like
Powerpoint was still trying to link to the Excel file. I don't know why. I
held the ESC key down to stop the perceived linking, and I got the following
error message. "Excel experienced a serious problem with the 'c:\program
files\microsoft office\office12\library\html.xlam' add-in. If hou have seen
this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see
if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?" I tried
doing the linking after disabling the add-in and got the same error. The
reference to "html.xlam" makes me curious to our suggested hotfix.

Thanks for replying. The only other error message is the file cannot be
located and thus the links can't be updated. Something along those lines. I
appreciate your insight and advise. Thanks again.
