Can't lose the 'Upgrade Verification Box' when I know its not an upgrade!!

Marc

I recently installed MS Office 2004 on a new iMac (no previous versions
installed), and the error message below keeps popping up. I have never
installed a previous version of Office on this computer, and I know
that this isn't an upgrade version. I did install my office suite
before removing the trial version (should've read the 'ReadMe'
document) that comes with the computer. I have used the disk repair
utility. I have removed and re-installed the software. Nothing seems
to keep this message away.

Error message: "This software is an upgrade to an earlier version of
the software.
To continue installation, click Browse, and then select the folder
that contains the earlier version of the software (Microsoft Office
2001 folder, for example). The folder can be located on either your
computer or the CD-ROM from which you originally installed the earlier
version of the software."

Thanks in advance for any help.

Trash the trial version - then open a document (Word). It will then ask
you for what program to use. Point it to the version of Word (in
applications). It shouldn't ask again after that.

Sorry About the last post my message did not save.

Trashing the Office Test Drive is not enough. You need to use the
Remove Office Tool. The directions are at the following link.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;871017
Copy and paste into your browser and follow the directions. If all else
fails contact Microsoft Technical Support for Mac.
NOTE: If you have contacts in Entorage move your Microsoft User Data
Folder to your desktop before running the uninstall. (located in
Users/home user/documents folder) After re-installing Office replace
the folder in the same place.

Good luck

Actually, Remove Office doesn't touch the MUD folder, so this isn't
really necessary.

OTOH, you may want to consider saving some of the files detailed at

http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/BackUpPrefs.htm

for Word, or their corresponding files for Excel (i.e., add-ins, items
in the Startup/Excel folder, etc).
