can't merge labels

H

Harvey Waxman

Trying to create labels with Word OfficeX. Word freezes every time when I open
a data file and it is 'analyzing'. I've tried using Excel, Word and plain text
files. Simple three fields separated by tabs ending in returns, or as Word
calls them (enter).

Is there a bug somewhere or is it me?

Hi Harvey:

Make sure you know the difference between an "Enter" and a "return". If
your lines really are ending in returns, that's your problem ‹ they are
different binary characters :)

Cheers

Thanks. When I created the data file I simply used the 'return' key on the
keyboard. I also tried using an Excel file with the same data in columns.

I also suspected what you were saying and tried other separators for records.
I substituted '$' for the 'returns' , selected that character as the record
separator but with the same results.

It seems strange that it is so hard.

thanks for any help

Hi Harvey - You're splitting your issue into 2 separate conversations. Doing
so makes it harder for you to follow the replies & causes responders to
waste time retracing ground that has already been covered by others.
