Can't Modify Table

R

Ron

Hi Everyone,

I have created an Access database consisting of 109
records and 5 columns. One of the columns has no
information in it, so I want to delete the column. When I
try to delete the column, the message "You can't modify
this table now because someone else is using it" appears.
I get the same message when I try to rename the column.

The odd thing is that I an NOT on a network and I am the
only person using the table. Any suggestions?

Thanks is advance.

First off, be sure there are no Forms open, or Reports open in preview
mode, or any query or table datasheets open - the other user may just
be YOU!

If this isn't the cause, get out of Access altogether; look in the
folder where the .mdb file resides. If there is a file of the same
name with a .ldb extension, delete it - it contains the "user locks".

Whether there was a .ldb file or not, try Compacting the database.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, create a new, empty database and
use File... Get External Data... Import to import everything from this
one. This will get you a clean set of systems tables and should clear
the locks.
