What version of Access are you using? It could make a difference to my
answers below.

1. You can try to convert the database; however, make sure that you have a
good backup. Also once converted it's likely that you will prevent uses with
older versions of Access from ever using that database again. Be very careful
here as you could make a lot of people unhappy. If you do not convert the
database, you still should be able to open it and use whatever forms,
reports, ect., are there; however, you can not modify any of them or create
new forms and reports.

2. Are you starting Access from a shortcut that points to a specific
database file? If so that file is no longer there. Open the properties of the
shortcut and see where the file is suppose to be located. You still should be
able to go to the Start button, Programs, and then find MicroSoft Office
Access and open it there.

Going to need a little more information, might help to get an answer.

1. What version of Access do you have?

2. Also, sounds like you are trying to open database 'ABC' in design mode
and that message is saying yeah okay but if you want to make design changes
you need to bring me to the version of Access that you have.

3. How are you trying to open the version of Access that you have? Are you
double-clicking on an icon. In that case might be a broken shortcut and
it's right it can't load that file because it can't find it.

And lastly, 4. Do you have Access or an application that has been packaged
as a runtime? The later means you really can't open Access because you
'technically' do not have Access.

HTH, Gina
