Can't open any file from others with Office Home and Student 2007

I have just installed Office Home and Student 2007 (I have Windows XP), the
installation worked perfectly and I can use the programs effectively BUT if I
try to download a file (Word, Powerpoint or Excel) that my friends send
attach to their emails I can't downlad them (neither for "open" nor "save"),
the downloading windows opens but just stays there forever, not even
indicating the time remaining for downloading or the dimension of the
file.....
It is important for me to exchange my files with my friends, I can save my
files in the previous format and they can read them but it doesn't work on
reverse!

yahoo. I have just discovered that I can open attachments if I use another
not-yahoo-email, I still have the problem with yahoo

Can you be much more explicit about how you are trying to download the
attachments and what does or does not happen? I use yahoo UK and I can
download attachments perfectly OK...

Are you using the new Yahoo mail beta or the old version?

I am using yahoo.it , the new beta version
When I receive an email with an attachment I click on it, the antivirus
scans it, I click "download" then a window opens with the details of "file
name/type/from" and I can either choose "Open" or "Save", in both cases a new
window opens, title "File download", and " Estimated time left/ Download to/
Time left" are all blank, no numbers, no time, nothing there.
You can see the picture of the little sheet of paper flying from the globe
to the left to the yellow book to the right and I could watch them for
hours.... but nothing happens really, not even error messages.... I tried
with word and excel files.
I tried using an account on www.katamail.com and everything works fine, so
it must be something with yahoo...

Try reverting to the old version. The same happens here with the new beta
but it's Ok in the old version...
