Can't open any Microsoft Office attachments.

Can't open any Microsoft Office attachments. Get the following dialog box
error.
Decompression may not be possible because file may already be open.
Can open attached Excel files if they are saved to desktop as a zip file.
Then I can open zip file containing Excel file

Using Windows XP Professional, MS Outlook 2003.
