Can't open attachments

All of a sudden every attachment that I recieve in Outlook is defaulting to a
word document (although the icon appears to be an adobe photoshop icon...not
pdf)...and won't open. If it is supposed to open with PDF I have to right
click and save to my desktop and then work on opening it with the correct
program at that point. Any ideas as to why my attachments are defaulting to
something other than what they are?

Apparently something changed the file type association in Windows. Outlook
simply uses what Windows tells it to use.
