Can't open database

Access 2000 single user. Message: "The database has been
placed in a state by user 'Admin' on machine 'A...' that
prevents it from being opened or locked."

I made a usable copy but cannot delete the original
(sharing violation).

How can I unlock the database so that I can delete it?
