Can't open DB

Hi,

I have been using my front-end secure DB for the past few
weeks over the network. However, I received a msg
today "The database 'C:\DBSYSTEM\SECURE~1.MDB' needs to be
repaired or isn't a database file.

Does anyone know the reason for this? None of the users
are able to log in to the DB now.

Hi,

Welcome to MS Access!

It is possible that your database was corrupted (numerouse reasons fo
this). The simple thing to do is Compact and Repair it using:

Tools> Database Utilities > Compact and Repair option.

You have to investigate the events which brought you to this state.

Hope this helps, Good luck

Hi A1,

Thanks for your reply.

However, we already tried that but we are unable to repair
it because the pop-up message stated that it isn't a
database file. Moreover, we are using access 97 and hence
we tried to compact ot before repairing, but it doesn't
work.

I did not mention earlier that the problem only exist for
my secured frontend. Therefore my secured back end is
working fine.

Is there any alternative way where I can unsecure my
secured back end so that I can create a link to my backup
front end? After which I will secure them again with my
workgroup file.

According to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 158933 once
you get this error message your database is beyond hope of
repair. Your only answer is to go back to the recent
backup that still works. You also need to upgrade to
Office 97 SR-2 then run another Jet35sp3.exe to update
some .dll files. What has happened is a System file has
become corrupt and this process is supposed to prevent it
from happing again. Reading this Article will make
things more clear.
