Can't Open docx files in Word 2007?

E

Elizabeth A.

I'm having issues with Word 2007. My professor posted many .docx Word files
on our class site to download and use as resources for her course, but I
can't open them. I can download them to my hard drive, I can save them, but I
can't open them. I'll get a window that says either the files is an incorrect
filetype or it is corrupted. It also says I may not have enough RAM to open
it, but I just did some major spring cleaning with my old files and programs
so that really shouldn't be an issue either.

What's confusing me is I have Word 2007, so I can't see how it's won't open
a .docx file. I could understand if it was a compatibility issue with an
older version of Word, but seeing as how it's the same program that creates
that filetype it just doesn't cease to confuse me.

I wrote to the professor to see if she could do anything on her end (since
at least two other students have complained of similar problems), but I'd
like to know if there's anything I can do on my end to fix this problem.

Well as you have Word2007, you should have no problem opening them. Other
users without Word 2007 can download the free compatibility pack for Office
2000-2003. But you don't need it.

Have you established if other students are able to open the documents? Are
they Word 2007 users?

How are you getting the documents to your computer: do you download them to
your computer on the college network or how?
