can't open email attachments or click into open documents

My client is using Office XP Word 2002. Openning attachments opens Word but
not the document. If I click to open a document from My Documents or other
folder (explorer), Word opens but not the document.
If I open Word and find the document and open it, the document opens but I
cannont click into it. I can use my arrows keys to go into the docment and
edit it but can't click into it.
If I run Word in safe mode I can click into the document and open e-mail
attachments.
I have no firewalls running, have run Norton full system AV scan, updated
and ran Spybot and AdAware and have found no problems.
All this use to work 3 weeks ago. My client is not aware of any changes
made to the system 3 weeks ago.
Any thoughts?

I completely uninstalled Office XP, deleted the registry entries pertaining
to Word and re-installed Office. Still no luck.

Can you open Word and create and save a document from scratch? Can you print
a document? It sounds like you have a trial version of Word that has expired
or it has not been activated and has passed its 50 starts limit.

You could also try to reregister Word. See
