Can't open Excel attachments

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have tried sending myself Excel files created on Windows and same with opening files sent to me by others in Entourage. Whether I try to open them directly from the email or save them to the hard drive, I get an error message that says that the file can't be accessed because it is read-only. The files are not read only. If I move them using my network from computer to computer, they work. This is fine for my own files, but is not a solution for receiving files from others. What's the fix?

This is most likely caused by either the outgoing (theirs) or incoming
(yours) mail server. If it doesn't occur with *all* Excel attachments (as
well as other types, perhaps) it probably isn't on your end. Have the
senders zip the files before sending & see if that prevents the problem.

AFAIK, there is nothing about Excel or Entourage that would cause the files
to be converted to "Read Only".
