Running XP Pro, Office 2000 Pro (Excel)
After applying the formula =IF(ISERROR(Cell#/Cell#),"",Cell#/Cell#) to
hide the errors #DIV/0! in some cells of a large spreadsheet, I can no longer
open the file/workbook. One of the (large) worksheets included in the
workbook had two columns that contained alot of those errors. I chose the
entire column to apply the formula, and all went fine for the first column.
However, when applying to the 2nd column, I got a msg. that there wasn't
enough memory, and since then, I can't open the workbook, and, therefore,
none of the worksheets contained within. The program just quits responding
during the open process. I left it run all night but the next morning, it
was still trying to open the file. (Task Manager shows it as Not Responding
and I have to click End Task to quit/close.) Also, after that, the file
increased in size DRAMATICALLY, and is now nearly 40,000 KB. I'm wondering
if by highlighting the entire column I increased the file size and that is
what's causing this problem. I've tried moving the file to another network
computer and opening from there, I've tried opening from the Excel program
rather than clicking the file name, I've tried making a copy and opening
that. I can open a single worksheet at a time in Word, but that doesn't carry
over formulas or links and redoing all that would be a monumental task, so
isn't much help. (If I try to open the entire workbook in Word, I get the
same error msg about not enough memory. This machine has 1.25 GB RAM.) I
don't know what else to try and am rather desperate since I have no backup
copy. I did a Google search and found some programs that can recover
corrupted Excel files but am hoping for a "free" solution. Any help will
much appreciated.
