Can't open existing docs in Word 2007

I can open them, but only briefly and the application shuts down....(i've
tried from the doc. menu and the application -file/open; also Excel is
fine)...PLEASE help!

Thanks - I saw that - I'm not sure what section would be helpful -- as it's
not that Word crashes when I open the application, it's only certain
documents when opening, causes the application to shut down ?? I can't
figure out any consistencies, either (some documents are fine -- either in
docx or doc format, I tried old documents/new documents (date) - it's just
sporratic/can't figure it out)....

I went into the area that 'diagnoses' Word in the application, and nothing
appear....I'm going crazy!! Thanks!!!
