Can't open file from disc

S

Sherry

I saved a file to a floppy disc and now am unable to open
it. All of the other files on the disc open fine. When I
try to open it the following message appears "Word failed
reading from this file (name of file). Please restore the
network connection or replace the floppy disc and retry."
When I called Microsoft they said it might be a corrupt
file. Is there any way to open this file and get the
information?

Saving directly to or opening directly from a floppy is the #1 cause of Word
document corruption. Changes are good that your document is already damaged
(if it wasn't before you tried to open it, you may have done the damage by
trying to open it), but try copying it to your HD, then open it from there.
When you save, save it to the HD and then copy it to the floppy. When you
work on a Word document, numerous temporary files are created (an additional
one each time you save), and these can quickly fill a floppy. If you
compound the problem by removing the disk from the drive before Word is
through swapping file around after a save, then you're in big trouble!
