Can't open file from PC

S

Steve B.

A friend with a PC has sent me a file (called 'Perfect') that my machine
(running OS 10.4.3) sees as an Excel file. When I open it in Excel X, I get
a spreadsheet with 3 sheets. Sheets 2 & 3 have no entries. The first sheet
(where I assume all the action is), is scrolled all the way to the bottom,
and I can't make the window scroll up. I can grab the thumb in the scroll
bar and drag it up, but when I let go, it just snaps back to the bottom.

The same friend sent this file to a friend of mine with a PC, and it works
fine. I thought Excel files were cross-platform. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance,
Steve = : ^ )

I wish I could help, but I have the same problem. I had the person save
the files in several different formats without any luck. I do have a
Windows machine I can open them in, but every time I try to save them
Excel blows up. My belief is that Excel files are *not* cross-platform
and I also would like to know what I can do as these are files from my
accountant and I need to view them.
