Can't open files on cd rom

I recently changed computers. I backed up all my word files to cd
before I switched over only to find that when I try to open the files
using word I get a message saying that I should check the spelling of
the name of the document or try a different file name. The files are
listed when I click on the drive name...I just can't open, delete or do
ANYTHING with them.

Can anyone tell me what's going on and what to do to open these files?

You can start by copying them to your hard drive and open them from there
(after removing the read-only attribute in Windows Explorer).
