can't open jpg??? help..

I received an e-mail message with a document attachment jpg format

I can't open it, and when I try it's all numbers and symbols

A jpg is an image file, you should be opening it in a graphics program.

If it's all text, it could be encoded (UUCP, YENC etc); try asking the
sender.
