I have Windows XP (OEM) and Microsoft Office 2003 (Student). I used
Microsoft Office Document Imaging to scan a document, and then saved it in My
Documents as a .mdi file. When I click the document or file I get a message
that “Windows cannot open this file:…Windows needs to know what program
created it….†If I select the program from a list (Microsoft Office Document
Imaging) the document will appear in that program.
If I then open the document in Microsoft Office Document Imaging, click on
the File menu, then Send To, and Mail Recipient (as Attachment), the
document appears as an attachment in a New Message in my Outlook Express
E-mail program with a .mdi extensopn. When I try to open the document, I get
a message that “This file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control
panel.†I then open Folder Options, but cannot comprehend how to create a
program association for the file.
What steps do I take to open the attachment in an e-mail program?
Thank you.
