can't open MS programs, especially Word

Hello all
Yesterday afternoon, I suddenly couldn't open programs
which I'd been working with all day. Especially word. I
went into System Info - and it says there is no Word, nor
Excel, nor FrontPage to open, the program doesn't exist.
I have Win98v2 for an OS. I also can't open Dr. Watson,
using precisely the directions in help, although Drwatson
does show up in the System Info.

Now, do I have a worm or a virus? If I reinstall, won't
it just delete the programs again?

I do have Norton AntiVirus and WinPatrol (just added
today), which says my system is clean. If so, WHY did the
programs disappear?

Very scary and frustrating!!! HELP, please!!! Julie
