Can't Open MS-Word File from Yahoo or Gmail email?

M

maasultan

Recently, I came across problem: when a MS-Word is emailed to someone,
that person can't open my MS-Word file!?

I did this test: sending a MS-Word file from my yahoo email to my
gmail email, yes I couldn't that MS-Word file?! I tried to do the same
using Excel file instead, it did go with NO problem!

It is like a blockage that I need to remove?!

Help please?

Did you try testing in the reverse direction?

On my Yahoio email, I switched first into the non-classical view where
when you try to open an attachment it does the antivirus thing before
downloading the file. It works that way.

On my Gmail email, I couldn't find similar thing so the problem didn't
get solved using Gmail?!

I'm not sure why this isn't working for you. I use GMail and have no
problems with attachments. If I receive an attachment, I save it to my local
HDD and then open it from Word without any problem.

Frequently these sort of problems are due to some over-zealous AV device
destroying the attachment. As a test, try zipping a document and emailing to
see if that resolves the problem.

Hi Maassultan,

I tried sending from Yahoo mail to Gmail and vice-versa using both Word 2003 and Word 2007 attachments.

As long as you have either Word 2007 or and older version of Word and the Office 2007 compatibility pack the documents should open
in Word from the attachments in either web based mail client.

As Terry mentioned, it could be something like the antivirus/security software on your PC itself rather than the email program being
a problem.
