Can't open my .pst in Outlook2000

I need some help...
I have a .pst file that I direct copied from one hard drive and placed on another. I placed it in my Local Settings\Outlook folder. I tried to open the .pst file for viewing in Outlook but can't. To get and view this in Outlook, I'm right clicking on the Outlook icon which brings up the MS Exchange Server Setting Properties window, then I click Add, then select Personal Folders in the Add Services Profile Window. When the Create/Open a Personal Folder window comes up I select my .pst file and click open. A pop up saying "The file <mypath><myfilename>.pst is not a personal folders file" appears

The file was created with Outlook and has the .pst extension. Originally when I copied on the new drive, the file type showed as an Office Data file. I've changed the file type to an Outlook Data file. But, still doesn't recognize it.
Two other things 1.) the properties dialog for the .pst file shows "Opens with: Unknown Application"
2.) if I create a new personal folder and .pst file everything works Ok and the new .pst shows the
same properties as the copied file I'm trying to view

Confused and thanks in advance

What version of Outlook were you using to create the .pst file? If Outlook
2003, there is a known problem with files created in the new unicode format
not being compatible with earlier versions of Outlook.

Have you run scanpst.exe against the file? On the properties page, is the
read-only tick mark cleared?
