Cant open Office applications when outlook (with BCM) is running

I am using Office Professional 2007

I tried to open an attachment to an email and was offered a message that was
headed:

- BCM Office Addin.
- and included: Office Application Version does not match

Equally I could not open other applications / documents if outlook was
already running.

If the application was running - then I opened outlook I could open the
documents for that application only...
