can't open Project file

A group of clients have a Project file saved onto a network drive. All of the
users either have Project 2002 or 2003. Today when one of the users with 2002
tried to open the file, got this error: "Microsoft Project cannot open the
file. Try one of the following: Check the file's name and path are correct -
Check that the file is in a format recognized by Microsoft Project. Microsoft
Project files (.mpp) from a version earlier than Microsoft Project 98 cannot
be opened." As far as they know, no one has an earlier version than Project
2000. I have seen this error several times - any solutions?

Hi Mary

in my experience it means the project file is corrupt ... some ideas :-

- try the ideas at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318438
- re-install project or try opening the file on another computer
- you could try the instructions at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/pdr/PDR_CreateDap_3351.asp
to link the file to an access database and open it with that (go tothe
article entitled "Accessing the OLE DB Table Structure Using Data Access
Pages in Microsoft Access" and see if it works ...note, i couldn't get it to
work as i didn't have the OLE DB Provider on my machine so
i don't know if this will help)
