Can't open projects from project server

Herbgarden

Yesterday I was working just fine with Project and Project Server (both
2007). This morning I was updating timesheets over our VPN and went to open
a project to update that and got a 'can not load file' error. Assumed it was
something to do with the strength of the connection and stopped till I got to
the office.

However still can't open any projects on a read/write basis at all - each
time I try I get the same can't load file message referencing Error 42? THis
is the xml that it gives:

<detail><errinfo><general><class name="An unhandled exception occurred in
WinProj.PreReadProject."><error id="42" name="GeneralUnhandledException"
uid="09967167-ac76-4dc7-b784-616f7e56a9a9"/></class></general></errinfo></detail>

I desperately need my projects back and working, can any one help?

Worth clearing out the Active Cache and then trying. The PreReadProject
error might lead one to assume that this is the cause of the issue.

Clear the local cache using this method and see if it helps:

Click Start > Run
Enter %appdata%
Navigate to Microsoft Project
Delete the subfolders

The cache and the cache management tool in Project both are a bit buggy

If this doesn't help, what was the last project that you saved? You may have
a project that contains some assignment corruption that the sytem is choking
on.
